BiAffect iOS App
Research Kit study designed to
unobtrusively understand mood and cognition in bipolar disorder
Motus collaborated with the BiAffect development team at the University of Illinois at Chicago to help develop BiAffect app for iOS.
The app uses keyboard dynamics and assessment exercises to find ‘virtual mental-health footprints’ or ‘signatures’ of abnormalities in people suffering from mood disorders, notably abnormalities in cognitive skills.
Winner of the Mood Challenge for ResearchKit Competition
Cooler Heads Safety – Flame Shield
Protects head and face from flash fire.
Motus was commissioned by Cooler Heads Safety Inc to provide Industrial Design concepts, and to develop a proof of concept for a patented safety technology. The Flame Shield FX1 protects industrial workers’ faces and heads from flash fire burns. It senses a flash fire and deploys an inflatable protective shield around the head and face in under 0.35 seconds.
Luge Force Handle
Precision Force Measurement Performance
Motus originally developed this technology for use by the Canadian Olympic Luge and Ski-x teams. The handles measure 500Hz horizontal and vertical force data during the start. This data is transmitted wirelessly to the Motus Starts iPad App, where it is synced with video for real time review by coaches. Fourteen kits have been manufactured in house my Motus, and delivered to Own the Podium.
Multi Sport Measurement System (MMS)
Instrumentation for Sports Science
The MMS was designed by the founding engineers of Motus for SPIN and Own the Podium in 2010 for use by Canadian Sports. The MMS is a 200hz data logger with GPS, ANT+ and a 16 bit microcontroller. Companion Review software allowed detailed analysis by coaches of athlete performance. The system saw extensive use by several Canadian Olympic Sports organizations, and is still in service today.
Motus Podia
New Generation Integrated Sports Measurement System
The Podia is an integrated system of body wearable data-loggers, companion modules, and sensors designed by Motus for use in high performance sport analysis.
The hub of the system is a data logger module, with a cortex M4 Processor, USB, GPS, Wifi, BLE, ANT, memory LCD display, 4 button UI, and CANbus based analog expansion. The module is a waterproof, 60g, 6.5cm x 5.5cm x 1.6cm package. A run of 20 units were produced and delivered to Canadian Olympic teams.
Motus Review
Analysis Software for Podia and MMS
This PC and MAC software was developed by Motus as a companion to the MMS and Podia hardware. It provides a platform for coaches, biomechanists and analysts for in-depth post session review of all logged parameters, comparative analysis of multiple session data, synchronization to video and GPS maps, and custom report generation.
Motus iPad Apps
Motus iOS apps provide real time feedback to coaches. The apps sync data from podia data loggers with iPad video for real time review. Providing athletes immediate feedback on recent performance from the captured data enables iterative improvements in performance.
Foot Force Sensor Technology
Innovative strain gauge application
This prototype was developed as a proof of concept to test the feasibility of creating a foot force sensor for use in Competitive Rowing and Canoe Kayak. Custom transducers with 32 individual strain elements report total x and y forces and center of pressure of force generated by the athlete real time over a CANbus interface.
Wheel Encoder System
Mechanically Isolatated Position Sensor Solution
This technology uses a magnetic encoder to measure wheel position and report it real time over CANbus. The sensor is mechanically isolated from the wheel creating a waterproof and highly durable solution.
Distributed Load Cell Interface Technology
Precision, synchronized, configurable.
Motus developed this technology for load cell instrumentation applications that require portable, lightweight, battery powered instrumentation. Several load cells can be daisy chained over CANbus to provide time synchronized data. Each load cell instrumentation-amp features a 16 bit ADC, digitally controlled analog gain and digitally controlled analog zeroing of the wheatstone bridge. Analog gain and zero offset allow maximum dynamic range in conditions when load cells are mechanically pre-loaded.
ECOFIT Touchless Generator
Implementing innovative ideas
Motus was commissioned by Ecofit Networks Inc to develop a touchless eddy current generator to provide power for electronics on a spin bike. The system provides up to 1 watt of power without direct contact of any moving parts of the bike, and a small battery with charge management system.
Espresso Timer
Motus designed this small espresso timer specifically for the needs of baristas.
